Where to start? My very first blog post idea was created a couple days ago, after 2 and half months of job searching after being laid off due to a store closing in retail, I decided to start noting my thoughts, experiences and well just about everything.
I can't help but think what fate has in store for me and what GOD was thinking keeping me here at home. Growing up I never thought I would ever work, my little girl dream was to be a stay at home mom and take care of a big family ( oh those little girls know how to dream big, LOL).
My current career started out in Luxury retail, through my 13 years in luxury retail I had worked my BUTT (excuse the language) off! Never ending days and nights, so many weekends, and so much time away from my husband and son. This career, so to say has been my life and now that it has come to an end, my blood sweat and tears all put into my what i thought was a life long career is now gone.
This job hunting experience has been so hard and really slashes at your confidence level and how you perceive yourself. I mean last year if someone had asked me, "If your store closed do you think you could find a job right away?", I would have laughed and said "of course". Being apart of such a limited career especially in this city, its a hardcore reminder that no one's job is safe and makes me think why the heck I never went to college.
We all know "back then" college was not something of a priority, well in a lot of families anyway ( can't speak for everyone") . Retail came easy and pays good, so why would you waste time on school and just make more money? Its a rapid reminder into what the current market is like and how education is so important these days. My son just graduated from 4th grade and he has had college stemmed in his mind since kindergarten, knowing he will be there and for a good while, LOL.
It's crazy to think that 13 years of experience will still get you passed up for positions you can do with your eyes closed, in less time than a "college graduate" but they will still be considered first. I know pay also has a lot to do with some of these decision makers. They would rather pay less and train then hire someone for more pay who doesn't need a babysitter.
I could go on forever but it's time to start winding down my first blog post. Hopefully this very first blog post explains how and why i started this process.
